Short Bio — 3 Sentences

Shannon Baird is the founder of The Clean Exit, a writer and strategist exploring women, work, power, and economic agency. Her work examines what happens when ambitious women begin building more ownership over their work, money, identity, and future — and how shifts in corporate work, technology, and the economy are changing the choices available to them. After an unexpected layoff ended her 11-year corporate career, Shannon began building the frameworks she now uses to help women create greater economic optionality before they ever need an exit.

Long Bio — full version

Shannon Baird is the founder of The Clean Exit, a writer and strategist whose work explores women, work, power, economic agency, and the changing nature of career security.

On Valentine’s Day, Shannon walked into a corporate meeting expecting the raise she had been requesting for months. She walked out unemployed.

After 11 years in corporate — a career she built from scratch after earning her communications degree at 38 and spending a decade as a stay-at-home mom — the experience forced her to confront a question she would eventually build The Clean Exit around: how much power does one employer have over a woman’s life when her income, identity, benefits, and sense of security all depend on that institution?

Today, Shannon’s work examines what it takes for ambitious women to build more ownership over their work, money, time, identity, and future. She writes about corporate conditioning, economic optionality, income concentration risk, AI as leverage, midlife reinvention, and the changing structure of work.

Her central belief is simple: the goal is not necessarily to leave corporate. It is to build enough power that staying or leaving becomes a real choice.

Through The Clean Exit, Shannon translates those ideas into practical frameworks that help women understand their financial runway, turn accumulated expertise into assets they control, and create greater economic optionality before making major career decisions.

She writes on Substack and contributes to conversations about women’s ambition, work, technology, ownership, and the future of career security.

Signature Topics for Interviews & Podcasts

Shannon comes with a clear point of view, a specific framework, and something your audience can act on the same day.

Her Audience

  • Experienced, ambitious women, usually mid-career.
  • Still employed. Still capable. Reconsidering the bargain.
  • Questioning work, security, identity, and what they actually want next.
  • Some will leave corporate. Some will stay.

They’re not looking for motivation. They’re trying to understand how much of their life is still organized around systems they didn’t design.

They’re looking for more ownership, more economic optionality, and enough power to make staying or leaving a real choice.

That keeps the structure you already have, but updates the substance to your new direction.
